I have had to cut way back on my plans for my 2nd Z due to budget restraints right now. I have a few questions. A little history, I bought a silver '91TT roller, no engine or tranny. I obtained a tranny & engine with 180K on it that had slipped a T-belt. Block is really rusty (external) this did run good, I am picking up a JDM engine that spun a bearing and bent a rod ( havent seen this yet) but heads are good. I am going to try and put an engine together out of these. I am going to use the cleaner block, how do I determine bearing grades? I have read the FSM and it is greek to me. The JDM crank is .005 under on one journel I was told, so I was thinking of using the high milage crank after a polish. I will use a set of straight rods ( high milage probly) should I or I should say could I use the high milage pistons also? I would rering, or has anyone used the Rock replacements with good results? Should I have any machining done? I would like to build this for less than a JDM would cost or close to it.. That way I have no guessing. As far as bearing grades and assembly, Should I just have a machine shop tell what bearings and assemble the short block? or just slap the JDM heads on my high milage bottom? that just seems TO easy I have never worked this far into an engine and am just unsure.. NOT scared. Thanks for the input.
2 Z's in the making!! |
